Welcome to our first local talent Q & A session! Today we are excited to introduce Lauriann Wakefield of Little Starling Photography. Lauriann specializes in newborn, children & family portraiture.
How did you get started in photography?
I've had a camera in hand ever since my first one in grade school. But as the digital age hit, I've been able to experiment more with my first digital camera. Five years ago I started taking pictures of babies and have been loving it ever since.
Do you have a favorite photographer?
I have several photographer blogs that I follow. My favorite at the moment is Lyndsay Stradtner of Life in Motion Photography.
What is your favorite thing to photograph?
Newborns-they're so new and easy to mold and position.
What is your favorite piece of equipment other than your camera?
My laptop. I travel a bit and it sure comes in handy.
What is unique about your style?
My style is different than the typical Kandid studio. I come to your home and customize your photo session. It's personal and unique. My photos will be a capture of life with your little one.
Do you have any "rules of thumb" for your photography?
At a photo shoot, I always bring all my equipment-reflectors, lenses, chair, attention getter, etc. Even when I don't use them, there have been times I was glad I had them.
Is there any photography rules you like to break?
Yes, that even a blurry photo can be lovely and capture the mood. I'm not all concerned about the right exposure and camera setting.
What is one piece of advice or encouragement you would give our readers who would like to take better photos?
Follow other photographer's blogs, or search on Flickr and study what is being done that you like. You can get ideas and inspiration by seeing what others are doing. I've learned so much from other blogs...
